The automated and digital libraries are the new faces of traditional libraries. To provide the access of library information resources and services with a single click of computer system to its users by crossing the barriers of space, time and place, it is necessary that the traditional libraries have to change their faces. This can only be happened by transforming the manual functions of libraries into automated functions and with creation of digital documents.
This workshop is an effort of the University to provide a platform for participants to learn the basic skills for the automation and creation of digital library system. Thus, will work like a guiding force for them to automate and develop their own digital library systems.
Objectives
* To impart theoretical knowledge on some of the recent trends in the field of medical librarianship;
* To create a knowledge base for Health Sciences Librarianship;
* To provide training in library automation and digital library creation.
Target Participants
This workshop is intended for library & information science professionals preferably working in health science libraries. A total of 30 participants will be admitted, preferably having good knowledge of computer and allied technologies.
Course Contents
- The duration of workshop is 5 days and will include practical demonstrations and hands-on training in library automation and digital library creation.
- Library Automation will include practical training on various modules of E-granthalya software developed by National Informatics Centre, New Delhi.
- Digital Library Creation will include practical training on development of digital library using Greenstone Digital Library Software and DSpace an institutional repository building software.
- Lectures and Demonstrations will be held on the recent advances in the field of medical librarianship and libraries such as health science librarianship, e-journals and library consortium etc.
Workshop Fee
- The registration fee for the workshop is Rs. 1000/-.
- Food: Tea & Snacks for two sessions, Working Lunch will be provided during the workshop. Participants will have to make their own arrangement for breakfast and dinner at their own cost.
- The boarding and lodging will be the responsibility of participants. Limited accommodations will be provided on payment basis.
- No TA/DA will be provided to attend the workshop.
